A day full of jamming!

Day 323! Well, I was supposed to have my first surfing lesson today… but that fell through unfortunately. Instead I ended up making a lot of music at the shed!

I woke up bright and early today! I had my first surf lesson scheduled for 7am. So I got up at 6:15am and got ready to go.

I packed up my bag, hopped on my bicycle (without my surfboard), and headed on a quick ride to Turners Beach. When I spoke to Shayno, the instructor, last he said to be on the lookout for the surf school’s van. I didn’t see it when I arrived, but I was 15 minutes early, so I just sat down on a rock and waited.

15 minutes went by and still no sign… so I texted him and asked if we were still on. I got no response, but I was on the optimistic side that he’d show up. I spent the next 30 minutes watching the ocean and the waves went from alright to subpar.

Around 7:30am I texted him again saying I was heading home and would love to reschedule. I got a text a half hour later with him apologizing and he forgot to hit send on a message the night before saying he wanted to postpone the lesson and wait for better surfing conditions.

Fair enough! Unfortunate I woke up so early for nothing and didn’t even bring my surfboard to hit the waves anyways… I wanted to use whatever board he brought so I could try something new and it might’ve been even better for the lesson’s sake.

So I headed back home and crawled back into bed for another hour.

When I woke up, I ate breakfast and then finished up my blog post from the night before.

It ended up being a fairly rainy morning, so I spent it reading a ton of Words of Radiance (the second way of Kings book). It just keeps on getting better and better! But eventually I set my book down to have lunch.

My plan for the day was after lunch, wait for the rain to break and then bike over to the shed for a little solo jam session! My friends gave me access and were super generous in allowing me to go to the shed without them!

An hour after I ate, the rain stopped and I did just that! The bike ride wasn’t bad at all. It was around 10 minutes and thankfully the streets weren’t very busy on my ride. But I rode up to the storage units and let myself in!

I ended up spending two and a half hours at the shed by myself. I had music playing and was playing the electric guitar along with it and of course singing along to. I haven’t had many opportunities to play however loud and sing as loud as I wanted. It’s a blast!

The time really flew by and before I knew it I had played every song I knew and a few more andddd it was 4:30pm. It had drizzled on and off while I was playing but by now it had stopped.

So I closed up shop and headed back home.

When I got home I watched some episodes of Bleach and then I got a text from my friend Paddy asking if I was free and wanted to jam… I couldn’t say no!

So I made myself dinner and then after I finished Paddy and his girlfriend picked me up and we headed BACK to the shed.

Bella played the drums today, while Paddy and I switched between guitar and bass. Eventually though, Paddy settled on the bass so I mainly jammed out on the guitar.

We had an absolute blast playing for another 2 hours! We got down a pretty sweet jam of the song Beggin’ by Måneskin, probably my favorite one yet! We also did a lot of improvisation and just trying to riff off of the different chord progressions we were playing. It’s so much freaking fun!

I honestly can’t believe I played almost 5 hours of guitar today!! How great is that?!

We headed home around 9pm and called it a night! My surf lesson for tomorrow was cancelled as well due to the conditions but I still have intentions on trying to surf in the morning anyways! If anything, I’ll try my best and get knocked around by the waves… I’ll probably be able to catch something!

Tomorrow I’ll get back to work. I have a lot less hours this week, but the schedule is always changing so I’m sure it’ll change a bit!

But as always… we’ll see!
