A lazy day in Melbourne

Day 271! Today was a very lazy day at the hostel… I definitely needed it though between the late night and being sick. But I think I’m on the mend and I’m feeling much better! I hope that trajectory stays!

I had nothing planned for today, so I decided to give myself the rest I needed to hopefully kick this cold that I have… so I slept in till around 11am! It’s been awhile since I’ve done that.

I got ready for my day and then headed down to the TV room to do my morning reading. Unfortunately I couldn’t have breakfast yet, the hostel closes the kitchen from 11am to 12pm every morning to clean it out.

I didn’t end up reading as much as I had planned, so I didn’t finish the book… but I’m 500 pages in now and will crush the rest of it soon. It would be really nice to get the second half of this book at the used bookstore I got the first half at.

While I was reading, some friends came into the TV room and put on the movie White Chicks. I hadn’t heard about this movie until a few days ago… and it’s the second time someone’s watched it this week. It’s a 2004 film that definitely wouldn’t be able to be filmed today. But I just read away and chatted with them while they watched.

This was movie #1 of the day.

It was raining outside and cold, so I had no intentions of leaving the hostel much. But 12pm rolled around and it was time for lunch!

I was practically out of groceries, so I made myself one more quesadillas with what I had left. If you haven’t realized since Koh Tao… I love quesadillas!

I went back to the TV room after eating and they were just starting the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. I’ve been wanting to watch this film but haven’t made the time so I was excited for it! The movie was really well done and the ending was spectacular. It gave me goosebumps and a bit teary eyed watching their big performance at the end.

This was movie #2.

We then started movie #3, Rocketman, inspired by movie #2.

We got about 20 minutes in when I finally decided to run and grab groceries. I was bummed to be missing part of this movie, but I needed to take advantage of the sun coming out and the rain going away.

At this point in the day, it was gorgeous out! It made for the perfect conditions to walk to Aldi.

This time, I had a plan of what I wanted to get. Which made the grocery trip a lot faster than my first one. I was able to get chicken, pasta, vegis, clementines, and a few other things for around $45 AUD! Not too bad.

I even made it back in time to watch the majority of Rocketman as well. This also was a great movie that I’ll need to watch over again as well.

With the groceries I got, I made myself rice (from last week’s grocery trip) with chicken, tomatoes, and cashew chicken sauce.

It was super tasty and I finished it off with a couple clementines! Nice to have some fruit.

To top off the night of movies, I watched Ready Player One. This was a book I really enjoyed… I can’t say the same about the movie. Even with knowing the book, the movie was tough to follow… but knowing the book didn’t help much because the movie didn’t follow the book at all. It was a cool movie still!

We switched the movies to a TV show called After Life. It’s a dark humored British dramedy show, it was both tearing at my heartstrings and making me laugh throughout each episode.

I have no plans for tomorrow outside of continuing the job hunt and figuring out plans and ideas for Australia! We’ll see what happens!

Hi Nephew. Enjoying reading about your travels. Wondering if while you are in Melbourne you’ll be able to travel down to Phillip Island to see the march of the Little Blue Penguins. Cute little birds spend all day in the sea fishing, and then at dusk begin a march up the beach to their nests in the surrounding brush. Quite a show! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIIvTm5xTF0

you can also see a bunch of the penguins at the beach at sunset. Philip island is great because of the number of penguins coming in from the water but you can’t take pictures. They don’t stop you from doing so at the beach and the beach is free 🙂

Sorry I’ve been radio silent for a while. Loved reading about your Oz adventures even if not much has happened yet. For some reason I stopped getting the emails about your posts and got super behind. All caught up now :). Out of curiosity was the aquarium job at Sea Life Aquarium? If so, that’s where I was 5 years ago!

Yay Aldi! I miss living close to one, haha. But now I’m closer to the Winn-Dixie that has kosher meat!
