My adventure to My Son with a group of strangers

Day 28! A fantastic day full of great people (as I’ll say many times in this post)!

This hostel is hands down awesome! Not only are there wonderful people here but I woke up to a free breakfast!

While I was eating copious amounts of pancakes I was asked multiple times if I wanted to go on a motorbike ride to My Son, a temple ruins about an hour away.

Originally I was hesitant to the idea because I didn’t want to ride for that long right after a 6 hour ride. But after being asked a few times from people I had met the day before I was sold!

It actually took us a while to get on the road. Everyone but me was renting scooters and it took awhile to get everyone a working one and then fill up gas.

But eventually we hit the streets!

This is only half the group (we lost some on the way there) but I led the pack on our hour excursion!

We had about 10 bikes all together cruising down the streets and countryside of Hoi An. One of our crew, Charolette, didn’t want to ride so I let her hop on the back of my bike!

On our ride we actually got stopped by a train! Which is the first time this had happened on my rides.

Our half of the group arrived at the sanctuary and while we waited for the rest to arrive we got some food to eat!

It took a while for our friends to arrive… they somehow turned the wrong direction on the first turn!

And then when the other half showed up they were still missing one person! It took her another 30 minutes to arrive so this couple hour activity was quickly turning into an all day affair.

We had a wonderful time at the ruins. I didn’t really know what I was going to but it’s another reminder of what the US did to Vietnam.

These sanctuaries used to probably be grandiose and gorgeous and now they’re reduced to rubbled remains.

The architecture and details in the stones were very impressive to see and it was a perfect day for a walk outside!

We had a wonderful time and the people I was surrounded by were equally as wonderful! I don’t think I’ll ever get over how amazing it is that there are so many good people out here and how easy it is to hang out with “strangers!”

We headed back on our hour ride home but this time we didn’t lose anyone!

Around 40 minutes into our ride we pulled onto a tight road that led to the middle of a rice field where there was a smoothie bar!

It was a nice way to end our long day but there was still more fun to come!

We headed back to the hostel for dinner and to relax! I met some more fun people at the hostel, played some pool, and also played the card game exploding kittens!

The hostel then threw on a late night bonfire where a big group of us jammed out to music late into the morning!

I stayed up till about 3am which is why this post is so late but it was a great day full of even greater people!

I’m thoroughly enjoying this hostel and I think I’ll hang here for a few more days relaxing and hanging out with these people before I head on!

It sounds like a wonderful day! I look forward to more stories about the people. What did you learn about the ruins?

Personally I didn’t even know anything about them to start so learned I learned they existed 😉 but they were constructed around the 4th-14th century and then destroyed in the war.

Which way are most of those people going when they head out? North or south?

Most I’ve met are going south! But I’m starting to meet more people going north!

At this point you are certainly the motorbike expert of the group!
