Day 13!

Welp, I’ve been waiting for this to happen… but I got sick 😪 which is going to make day 13 and 14 not the most exciting days unfortunately.

Lola’s had a minor cold for the past month and I’ve just been kind of waiting till I got it since we’ve been hanging out so much and it finally happened. Turns out a couple of us from our squad picked it up and it kicked my butt.

Luckily we had moved to a bungalow and weren’t in the dorms so I could just veg out and sleep however long I wanted to. I think I slept like 12 hours this night, which my body desperately needed after so many absurdly late nights.

Oh and on top of this Pai decided it wanted to rain nonstop 🤪 I honestly was expecting this type of weather for my whole trip and have been really lucky that that hasn’t been the case!

However, even with being a bit ill, we had to brave the rain and go into town and eat!

For “breakfast” (a very late breakfast) we went back to a restaurant we were big fans of and got some amazing glass noodles. Honestly the food in Pai was amazing. There was very few times that we didn’t enjoy what we were eating. Also Lola got me very into smoothies, so it was always fun trying a cheap one with every meal!

Basically between each meal we’d race back home to just lie around. I really had no motivation to do anything, but luckily we had basically done all the touristy things we wanted to do in Pai. So it was honestly very nice to just relax and enjoy each others company!

I’ve been trying to avoid western food. However, Lola and I had a list of foods that we HAD to try. Somehow she had never had a quesadilla and since it’s one of my favorites we got a tofu one and this mongo mango passion fruit smoothie!

We then split a tofu pad Thai from a street vendor, which was very good and very cheap (if I remember correctly it was about 50 Baht, which is under $2)!

And then for desert, Lola was craving a crepe so we got a Nutella and banana crepe which was absolutely heavenly!

One of Lola and I’s nightly traditions was stocking up on snacks from 7-11. Now usually we’d ask the 7-11 to heat our cheese toasty up for us but our bungalow had a toaster oven.

Unfortunately we accidentally woke up the owner of the place we we’re staying. A very nice Chinese man that didn’t speak any English, but was very friendly and insisted he helped us with the toaster oven. I think our food inspired him to have a late night snack too because he went into the kitchen and whipped himself up some scrambled eggs! 😅

Mainly a day of rest and eating, but still a nice day nonetheless! Pai has been my favorite place in Thailand by far and I didn’t even know anything about it prior to coming to Thailand!

Honestly, when I leave North America (which is rare) I’m always curious about how they interpret our foods (and whether they change as much as we tend to). Marinara sauce in Beijing was not at all what I’m used to.

Yeah, I bet it’s fine! But I don’t really plan to eat much more western food now that I’m not trying to educate Lola haha! But if I do I’ll let you know 😁

I love seeing how Taiwanese people make food from different cultures. I’ve never seen a crept look like that. It looks delicious though!
