Day 3!

Finally a post on time! I’ve been really enjoying sitting down and thinking about my previous day! It’s been a nice way to reflect and take a look back at the pictures I took! I hope you’ve been enjoying them as well!

Day 3… started late again 😅 after another late night on Khao San Road, with a mostly new group of backpackers, we started the day off around 11:30am!

The morning was a little bit of a rush as I had to get ready and “check out” of my first hostel! But checking out doesn’t mean it’s time to leave!

Luckily the hostel I was staying at was awesome and let me keep my bag in a safe room and hang out till it was time to leave!

After dealing with checking out I met up with my friends Lola and Helena to grab lunch (breakfast haha)! We went to a restaurant a bit of a walk from our hostel, but it was a lovely day out!

I got a VERY good Pad Woon Sen. Whenever I get Thai food in the US I usually just get Pad Thai. But seeing how this trip is about learning and trying new things I’ve been eating every new meal I can (I’ll still be eating a ton of Pad Thai though)

We ended up sitting and chatting at this restaurant for a long time, talking about everything from life to things we loved/hated to things about their home towns to how crazy some of the things going on in the US are.

After a lovely chat, we wandered around some street vendors on our way back to the hostel! I ended up getting a new tee shirt for 200 Baht (nice way to practice my haggling skills). I haven’t taken a picture of it yet but I will when I wear it next!

We then spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out in a really nice covered outside area of our hostel! We met a few more awesome people from all around Europe and one of them ended up hanging with us all afternoon too!

It was then time for dinner! Because I was leaving I really wanted to get the really good Pad Thai again. Not only was it good, but it was just so cheap (70 Baht)!

Dinner with our new friend! (Behind my head is where I sat the first time I ate here)

I definitely could’ve timed this better… but my bus to Chiang Mai was set for 8:50pm. By the time I was walking back from dinner I realized I had to book a Grab (Thai Uber) right then or I’d be late. I really didn’t want to miss this bus so I ordered one, said goodbye to my friends, and ran back to the hostel to grab my things! Helena unfortunately is going back home to Ireland but Lola is coming north too! I’m looking forward to spending more time with her and linking back up with some other new friends who are already up north!

I ended up making it to the bus station with plenty of time. However this station was HUGE! I walked up to where I thought I was supposed to be for my physical ticket and got a very confused look by the lady behind the counter. Luckily there was someone nearby that was able to semi direct me in the right direction. But after following his instructions I still was lost so I found some friendly looking travelers who spoke English and they pointed me in the right way!

I didn’t have long to sit around so I made my way to my bus terminal where I met a few other people also on the same bus!

Before I got on the bus I got a message from someone I met at the hostel saying his bus got delayed 2 hours. This got me a little nervous but luckily ours was on time!

After sitting down I chatted with a lovely couple (one from Turkey and one from Portugal) who are on their honey moon! And now we’re off to Chiang Mai!

Not really sure what this next leg of the adventure will hold. But I’m keeping a very open mind! The hostel I’ll be staying at is a very social hostel, so I’m interested to see how I like it vs this first one!

Also, the bus gave us snacks. I’ll probably save them for breakfast, since I get in at 6:30am 🤪 but I didn’t realize that was included in the ticket so that was a nice surprise!

I’m falling asleep while writing this and I’m hoping I sleep for a majority of this 9.5 hour overnight bus!

Curious to see the difference between Bangkoh and the rest of the places you go. Also love to see the fanny strapped! Looking clean as well!

awesome that you’ve made so many friends so fast! Any plans to keep in touch?

also, I notice a lot of things you’re eating have “pad” in the name–does that just mean “noodles”?
