The first day of Summer in Australia

Day 334! Holy moly… how is it already December?! Time is flying by here in Yamba and now that it’s December 1st, it’s officially the start of summer. Soon there’ll be droves of people flooding to Yamba to enjoy this wonderful surf town. But until then, it’ll probably be quiet for just a bit longer. However, today was the busiest day of the weekend so far.

I woke up this morning just before my alarm at 8:30am… I was definitely feeling last nights shenanigans catching up to me. But as always, it was a blast hanging out with “old” and new friends and having a night off from work.

I’m pretty fortunate to have met Will and that I’ve been able to meet people around my age through him.

I wasn’t going to let the dustiness stop me from getting up and at ‘em. So I got out of bed and got ready for my day.

Foot update:

I believe my foot is healing, but it’s been just under a week… so probably too soon to tell. But the swelling looks alright and there’s still no signs of bruising. If it wasn’t for the moon boot though, I still wouldn’t be able to walk very well.

This is making me optimistic that it will be a quick recovery. But… still taking things slow.

After getting ready for the day, I kicked back in bed for a little bit and watched a couple episodes of Demon Slayer. An hour later, I was finally ready to eat breakfast. So I made myself some eggs, avocado toast, and oats.

I still had a bit of time before work at 11am, so I kicked my foot back up and relaxed a bit longer with my moon boot off.

As I’ve said, the boot really helps… but it’s definitely making other parts of my leg sore from the new motions.

Work today started off slow, but I was working with a new coworker! He’s actually been at the hotel for a long time, but has been away holiday. So I finally got the chance to meet him and work with him. Funnily enough, he’s from Canada, so I’m not the only foreigner behind the bar anymore.

The shift started picking up around lunch time and it ended up being the busiest shift all week for me.

My schedule said I was working till 6pm, but I highly doubted that’d be the case. My manager told me to take a 30 minute break for lunch, just on the off chance he needed me to hang around for the whole shift. So I ordered a chicken schnitzel and went to the office to eat.

After my break, it was still a bit busy. But things started to slow down as the afternoon and evening bartenders started showing up.

I ended up being sent home around 4:15pm. Before heading back down the hill, I sat and chatted with Pat and a couple of his friends. We were also listening to the bars Sunday live music as well, but an ominous rain cloud made me want to head home. I had no intentions on getting soaked again.

When I got home, I immediately threw in a load of laundry. And laid down in bed to rest my foot after walking on it all afternoon. I actually ended up finishing the first season of Demon Slayer, it was really good! I’m glad I decided to watch this one next.

Eventually my laundry finished up and I folded it before making dinner.

I cooked up the kilo of chicken that I got from my grocery delivery. I also made a pot of noodles and chopped up some tomato too. Not the prettiest looking meal, but a cheap and tasty one!

After dinner I laid back down and continued watching Demon Slayer. I ended up binge watching the in between season (of season 1 and 2), which was also very good. I used to give Anime a lot of grief… but it has some of the best story telling, animations, and character development out of any show I’ve watched.

Paddy asked me if I wanted to jam tonight, but I was exhausted from last night still. So I rained checked for tomorrow night. Hopefully we’ll be able to jam then! The rain check was ironic because only a few minutes after declining for tonight, a huge thunderstorm rolled in!

Today was yet another day of work and resting my fractured foot. But for the next few weeks, that’s what it’s going to have to be! The excitement is on pause until I’m feeling better, but for now, I’ll enjoy the slow and restful time.

Tomorrow I have work in the morning and then we’ll see what we’ll get up to!
