A very lazy Sunday in Melbourne

Day 285! After a very late night out, I really needed to sleep in. So I started my day around the lunch hour. I didn’t do too much but I’m starting to think about my future plans… not too sure on any specifics yet but I’m getting excited thinking about heading north!

I woke up this morning around noon… I was still tired but I didn’t want to waste the entire day lying in bed.

I forced myself up to get ready for the day and then promptly laid back down in bed to write my blog post for the previous day. While I was lying in bed, I realized that it was already 70 degrees Fahrenheit outside!! That motivated me enough to get up and at ‘em. I went downstairs to eat my breakfast.

I’ll definitely need to go to the grocery store soon. But that can be a tomorrow task!

After I ate, I grabbed my book and headed to the nearby Carlton Gardens. I found a sunny bench to sit on and started devouring more of this fantastic book, The Way of Kings.

There was plenty of people watching to be done while I was reading. Everyone was out enjoying the weather in the park today, it was bustling!

I read for just over 2 hours in the park. It was such a pleasant way to ease into my day, and sitting in the sun rejuvenated me. It was so nice to enjoy such a beautiful day and spend more time outside.

I got a text from my friend Callum asking me if I wanted to watch Heartstopper with him. So I wrapped up the chapter I was on and headed back to the hostel. We ended up finishing the last three episodes of season 3, completing our binge watch of the series so far! It was a really good show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to whenever the next season comes out.

I pretty much spent the rest of the day in the TV room.

We started watching Forrest Gump, but I got hungry in the middle of it so I went and made myself some tomato and cheese quesadillas. I also finished off my rice cakes and spread peanut butter on them.

I went back to the TV room and finished off Forrest Gump. Most of my friends left to make dinner themselves, so I turned on Kiki’s Delivery Service and finished off from where I stopped the other day.

This wasn’t my favorite Studio Ghibli film, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

When that wrapped up, my friend Lewis then turned on a couple episodes of the TV show Lost. I watched this show a bit with my friend Evan when we were younger. But it’s a series I’ve always meant to watch from start to finish.

I started to get really really tired. So I called it a night.

Even though I didn’t do much today, it was still a very pleasant day. I got to enjoy the beautiful weather and hang out with my friends watching fun shows and movies.

Tomorrow I’m planning on going to some of my French friend’s new rental house for dinner! They want to cook us a French meal, which I’m very much looking forward to.

As of now I only have work on Thursday and Friday, tearing down the marquees I built this past week.

I also received an email from the live-aboard company saying that the steps would be a zoom interview and then if that went well, going to QLD for a famil… which I believe is a trial run or showing me what it would entail. They also said that they’ve hired two people since we last spoke and they’re mainly looking for instructors… so I’m not super optimistic anything will come from this, but worth a shot still!

I also got an email from a hotel in Yamba that I applied online to work as a bar/restaurant attendant. They said they only want in person interviews but if I come through to let them know, because they would “be keen to meet.”

The idea of sending it up the coast to this beach town once my week is up at the mansion has crossed my mind… and I think I’ll be heavily considering this idea. We’ll see!

before you leave Melbourne, I’d recommend you do the following:

See the penguins at the beach

go to the aquarium, even if not working there it’s the best aquarium I saw while in Oz (maybe that’s changed but who knows)

go to the Melbourne zoo. This was my favorite zoo in Oz

check out an Asian bakery, they have so many pastry options that are super delicious

if you can, go to Phillip island. I went on a tour that did penguin parade, chocolate factory, and a helicopter ride which was pretty awesome.

Also, if you haven’t eaten some sort of meat pie, you’re missing out. This is general Oz recommendation though. Some of my favorites you can get at the grocery store. I liked the steak and pepper ones, chicken curry, and steak and mushroom pies. There are so many options though. From my experience a traditional dinner is pie and chips, maybe with a salad 🙂

Thank you for all the suggestions 🙂 I have a lot of free time this week as I figure out my next move. So we’ll see what I can get up to! Also I’m sure I’ll be back to visit the city at some point during my stay in OZ!
