Jungle party round 2 and saying ‘see you later’ to Miri and Joya

Day 138! Sorry for the late post! I had another late night… but a fun one! Koh Tao is such a beautiful and active place and I’m having a blast here. Let’s dive into another amazing day!

Even after a late night of shaking my hips at Chophouse, there’s no luxury for me to sleep in… but I’ll catch up on sleep later.

I woke up nice and early to start my day with a classic Taco Shack muesli bowl and begin a morning of volunteering.

Now today was my day off. But since I took Thursday night off for the volleyball tournament, I decided to work this morning to make it up. No one asked me to, but I felt like it was the right thing to do.

I spent the morning as I have the past week (wow… it’s already been over a week), mingling with new arrivals, chatting with “old” friends, and “maintaining the vibe” of the hostel. I feel like this routine will never get too stale. There’s always new people to meet… and if not, I can better my pool playing skills!

I was told by many people throughout the day that they really enjoyed having me around and that they thought I was doing a good job as the volunteer. It was a very nice thing to hear!

Lunchtime rolled around and I was finally convinced to try the tacos at Taco Shack… yeah, probably should have been the first thing I tried.

I was glad I listened to the suggestion of the travelers around me because they were very good! I also only had to pay 80 Baht for two giant tacos. Perks of being a volunteer!

While eating, I met a new group of travelers that all were excited to hear and share travel stories. So I recounted my time in Vietnam, motorbiking across the country. I also heard some fun stories from people from all over the world, the US, Germany, etc.

I finished off the morning shift and told my manager, Yi, that I’d see him later tonight! I had the rest of the day off, but tonight was another jungle party. So I was planning on swinging by the hostel to join the festivities and make sure people got to the party without getting scammed.

I then met up with my friends Miriam and Joya because it was their last day on Koh Tao!

With them and my other friend Willam, we hopped on our motorbikes and made our way across the island to Aow Leuk! None of them had been there before, so it was nice to introduce them to one of my favorite beaches of the island.

After the beach, we decided to make our way to one of the sunset bars of the island, Secret Bar!

I hadn’t been to this bar before… mainly because when I was on Koh Tao last year, I tried and ended up at the wrong bar. So I was glad to finally have the chance to check it out!

This bar was a beautiful spot to enjoy a drink and watch the gorgeous sunset. I’ll definitely be coming back over the course of my time here!

While we were sitting there, some travelers had some extra food! So they offered us it to snack on which was super nice of them.

Miri, Joya, and I then headed to get dinner near our hostel. We went to a restaurant they had enjoyed already and I thoroughly enjoyed it as well!

It was run by two very sweet Thai ladies who made some very delicious pad thai and curries.

After eating dinner, it was time to say see you later to Miri and Joya.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to hang out with them over the past month. From spontaneously meeting in Bangkok to hanging out with my cousins, it really felt natural being around them.

I’m looking forward to hanging out with them in the future, potentially in Switzerland!

The night then turned into another fun night at the Jungle party.

I didn’t have to work at the hostel tonight, but to get my free ticket I needed to make sure everyone got to the party without getting scammed by taxi drivers.

So after I did my duties, I went and enjoyed another free night of dancing to some great live DJs

It was another great day on Koh Tao! Tomorrow I’ll be hosting the Taco Shack pub quiz and hopefully having a relaxing afternoon.

Sorry for another late post… but with these great concerts, it’s bound to happen.
